ANSI Grade matters
ANSI BHMA Grade 1 is commercial-duty (1,000,000-cycle rated, 6-lb force tolerance, 100-lb pull strength). Grade 2 is residential-heavy. Grade 3 is residential-light. Grade 3 hardware in commercial use fails at year 2-3 with worn cylinders, sagging hinges, and broken closers. Always specify Grade 1 for commercial — the cost difference vs Grade 3 is $80-$200 per door and the lifespan difference is 20+ years.
